Lanark Events - Lanimer Week
Many of the town's traditions, ancient and recently acquired, are centred on our Lanimer Week Celebrations. This is, as the name implies, a week long series of events commencing on the preceding Sunday. The 'date' for the Lanimer Week Celebrations varies from year to year and is determined by the date of the big event on 'Lanimer Day' and that day is traditionally the Thursday which falls between the 6th and 12th of June in a particular year. Thus 'Lanimer Week' can begin anytime between Sunday 2nd June and Sunday 8th June depending on when Lanimer Day falls that year. Confused? It really gets complicated when the government of the day decides to hold an election on Lanimer Day - but let's not go there! Instead, let me introduce you to the principal events in a 'traditional' Lanimer Week.
